PS, ABS AND OTHER RESINS

PS (Polystyrene) plastic is commonly used in a variety of consumer product applications and is also particularly useful for commercial packaging. Some PS manufaturers such as NOVA Chemicals, Formosa Plastics.

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) combines the strength and rigidity of acrylonitrile and styrene polymers with the toughness of polybutadiene rubber. While the cost of producing ABS is roughly twice the cost of producing polystyrene, it is considered superior for its hardness, gloss, toughness, and electrical insulation properties.

Types and Applications

GPPS (GENERAL PURPOSE POLYSTYRENE)

Ideal for making high clarity containers, glossy cap layers, medical applications like screw vials, disposable infusion trays.

HIPS (HIGH IMPACT POLYSTYRENE)

Is used for plastic spoons, folks, machined prototypes, low-strength structural components, housings, covers.

ABS (ACRYLONITRILE BUTADIENE STYRENE)

Useful in manufacturing high-impact products such as helmets, refrigerator doors, Lego bricks, the production of table tennis balls, musical instruments (recorders, plastic clarinets, and piano movements), golf club heads.

PVC (POLYVINYL CHLORIDE)

Appearing in everyday life, they are all around us. PVC is used for everything from construction profiles to medical devices, from roofing membranes to credit cards.

PET (POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE)

An exellent water and moister barrier material, plastic bottles made from PET are widely used for soft drink, and also used as a subtrate in thin film solar cells.

OTHER RESINS

Such as SAN (Styrene Acrylonitrile ), EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate), Engineering plastics
