Plastic Resins

Plastic resins are produced in multi-billion dollar petrochemical complexes through many different petrochemical processes. They are mass produced and they are homogeneous and standadized in size and quality. Plastic resins are raw materials which can then be used to convert into various types of plastic finished products for packaging, housewares, construction, automobiles, industrial purposes, etc. More than 300 million tons of plastic resins are produced globally per year (2015 figure).

PP (POLYPROPYLENE)

PP (Polypropylene) is a thermoplastic “addition polymer” made from the combination of propylene monomers. It is used in a variety of applications to include packaging for consumer products, plastic parts for various industries including the automotive industry and textiles. There are many PP major manufacturers in the world such as Chevron Phillips, Lotte, Exxon Mobil, GS Caltex, Formosa Plastics, Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC-Kuwait), Advanced Petrochemical Company (APC)

PE (POLYETHYLENE)

PE (Polyethylene) is the most produced plastic resin in the world, with which everyone daily comes into contact. Polyethylene is commonly categorized into one of several major compounds of which the most common include LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, etc. with specific purpose. Some of the top of PE manufacturers in the world include Equate, Chevron Phillips, Qapco (Qatar), Opal, Lotte, Sumitomo Chemical, Sasol.

PS, ABS and Other Resins

Polystyrene (PS) plastic resin is commonly used in a variety of consumer product applications and is also particularly useful for commercial packaging. Some PS manufaturers include Americas Styrenics LLC, Formosa Plastics.

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) combines the strength and rigidity of acrylonitrile and styrene polymers with the toughness of polybutadiene rubber. While the cost of producing ABS is roughly twice the cost of producing polystyrene, it is considered superior for its hardness, gloss, toughness, and electrical insulation properties.
